Default Comp Cams XE278 fit a Stock Block?

Im just wondering if anyone knows if Comp cams XE278 which is a pretty wild cam and has 242/246 duration @ .050 and .550/.550 lift would fit a stock 02 Mustang GT short block? My friend just gave me these for a really good deal that I couldn't pass up. I was told that the piston to valve clearance might be a problem. Any one know for sure? Thanks

The xe278ah right? That's not a small cam for your car. They will hit at those specs. There isn't much clearence on the stock PI head motor.

I have these very cams and you will need to cut valve reliefs in the pistons.

Just like aode said, at high rpm or even red line they will hit.

Ford really should have taken into consideration that people would be heavily modifying these cars after purchase and given more ptv clearance. I mean seriously, look at every other mustang ever made...they've all had a religious following of modifying the cars while trying to keep the bottom end stock. They should really learn something from that.

stuff like that drives the price of the cars up.. Ford is all about profit so they skimp on stuff.

Running a different valve is one way. Different or ported heads would change this too. You could also create more ptv clearence by retarding the cams, but it will cost you power.

So how are you going to put cams in a short block? last time I checked the cams in a 4.6 are in the head and a short block means block and rotating assembly with no heads on it.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah I meant long block not short block sorry. In the spring Im buying Trick Flows 2V heads and having Fox Lake port them even further. Those heads support a cam with a lift up to .600. So these cams would fit in those heads right? Thanks again guys!
