Default 91 octane worth it???

Thinking about getting some kind of tuner for my stang... and i was just wondering about switching the octane to 91 (premium). Is it worth the price difference? What gains do u get by doing that? is gas mileage better worst or same? And also is the higher grade gas better for the engine?

The cost difference of 91 vs. 87 is only gonna be an extra two bucks when you fill up; the power increase you'll feel from a 91 octane tune I believe is due more to the remapped fuel and spark timing curves than the increase in octane. In theory, higher octane gasolines should burn cleaner and/or more completely; which would, in theory, increase mileage. Can't tell you with any real conviction that it will though. The only difference I've ever really noticed between different gasolines is brand. I always fill at Shell or Chevron as opposed to Valero or Thrifty or whatever bargain crap.

If you dont have a tune dont bother using anything other than 87 octane.

A tune is worth it really no matter what mods you have. The factory tune is weak at best in terms of timing. If you have the spare 400 to burn, go for it.

With out a tune burning 91 (or 93) will do nothing...

IMO it is, but since we have 93 here in MI, why not tune it for that.

A little bit. When i had my hand held i bounced back and forth a few times between 87 and 93. It felt a little crisper on the 93 tune.

Yeah here in California we only have 91. So on top of not getting 93 we have to deal with all the emission laws here, awesome.
