pi swap and flat top questions
I have a 94 Thunderbird 4.6 just completely rebuilt the motor after hydrolocking the last one. I have upgraded to eagle forged rods, manley flat top pistons, pi head swap and cold air intake(the reason i hydrolocked). i am running 11.1:1 compression. I need some help on what other things might need to be done, keep in mind this car originally came with the old school aluminum intake so it is a totally different set up than stock. i have an sct chip for it also but i removed that after doing the flat tops cause i was worried about the timing advance. i am planning on having the chip reflashed to have it tuned for the the compression. But before that i didn't know what other parts i should buy for this swap to work properly, such as MAF, injectors, high volume fuel pump, adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I didn't notice any problems with 93 octane pump gas for the first 150 miles or so on the new motor, then i started noticed a sort of pinging of sort on accel. i put 101 in it and it seemed to stop, my theory is now that its got a few miles on it the rings are starting to seat in creating higher pressures in the combustion chamber making 93 not enough. but anyways any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

no if it was a proper rebuild there should have been less then .001 run out on the seats creating a maximum seal. and rings should be fine if they were installed properly. so its not that. id check your timing, also associated with fuel problems. and you sure your running 11.1:1 compression ratio. kinda high for a street motor so you might need to go with the higher octane if your computer can read it.

from everything that i have read 11:1 compression can easily be run on pump gas. whe the car is idilling it smells as though it is running rich. i think my main problem is in the tune. i'm just not sure at what point the stock MAF, injectors and fuel pump aren't enough. i think a little dyno tuning should clear it up( i hope at least) cause 101 is a little pricy to run on all the time.
