Default engine photos and question

I was wondering what you thought of the engine. I just picked up the car last month (1996 GT) and have jumped into modding it. I and my mechanic cannot seem to find the engine casting code. I was told by the used car lot that it was a 5.4L but it seems to have the same intake system as the stock 4.6. The only curious thing is that the engine block is painted red. I don't know if it was pulled for modification and then painted or if it is an entirely new engine/block.

My thoughts are to supercharge and when/if things start to break replace it with an MMR block and heads/blower cams. I would like to get a supercharger system that can be used now and after a potential build.

The car does feel stronger than it should with stock numbers though it does have headers/exhaust. I also do not know definitely if the heads were modified. When I would supercharge I would at least like to have PI heads if not go aftermarket.

My only other thought would be to throw it on a DYNO now for baseline numbers. This should lend some info as to what secrets she may be hiding

Thanks guys for your help

Are the 5.4 V8's physically bigger than the 4.6 V8's? Sometimes, dealerships 'accientally' mix up engine sizes on the cars they sell.

I wonder too? I know the 5.4 weighs more.

they are a lot wider and you would have adapter plates on there to use the 4.6 intake.that is a 4.6 in your car.....

that is what I kinda thought. I am not sure why the engine block is painted red. He would not have pulled it just to paint it. My guess is that he had some work done at some point. Sorry about the small pics. It automatically uploaded like that
