Default Ticking noise!

My 2001 GT with 80,000 miles has had a ticking noise from the drivers side for a couple years now and it has steadily gotten worse. It has been getting worse and worse as time goes on. When the drivers side is against a wall (a drive thru for example) I can barely hear the exhaust even though I have long tubes and an off road H-pipe. I have done all of my upgrades myself, but I am at my wits end with the noise. So I took it to the shop and they put a stethoscope up to the engine and couldn't come up with anything, except for a $113 bill. I have unplugged all fuel injectors and coil packs one at a time and the noise didn't stop. I have taken the headers out and replaced the gaskets, and the noise hasn't changed. The last thing I did was put my fingers on all of the coil packs and they were all smooth with the exception of the number 7(third cylinder back on the drivers side) which seemed to knock at my fingers everytime I heard the noise. So I decided since I'm fairly close to 100,000 mile on a 9 year old car I might as well spend $500 on a new set of Motorcraft coil packs. The noise is still here as is the knocking of coil pack #7. I have seen a couple of threads concerning this "ticking noise" on this forum but nothing useful has come of them. Any useful advice someone can give or another thread I overlooked please let me know.
Thanks,
PB

Hmm.. I have a ticking noise too coming from my driver's side, but im pretty damn sure it's an exhaust leak.

If you throw the car in 5th gear at a low mph and give it gas, does it just keep ticking? If so, it may just be an exhaust leak.. Tighten those midpipe/header connections.

But if it's not the exhaust, i don't think it would be the COP's.. And if it is, ebay has replacement COP's for us for $90 shipped LIFETIME WARRANTY... don't spend $500. that's ridiculous. I have the ebay ones and my car runs like a champ. Just like it did before i blew my COP's

My buddy had a similar situation in his gt (a sort of ticking noise as he put it) and it ended up being an exhaust leak down by the headers.

Like the header/midpipe connection? Driver's side? If so, how did he fix it?

I don't remember what all he did to be honest. I do know he said something about modifying the header flanges or replacing them.

I have a whole thread on this. All of the stuff that I have done and the knocking still remains. Check it out and see if your knock sounds like mine. I am down to saying it's the lifters.

Wow, thats pretty bad. Mine is nothing like that its just a slight tick when giving gas... i think it either has something to do with the speedo or its nothing and im just hearing things... lol
