Ok so my buddy just picked up a 4.6 out of an '04 crown vic that's complete plus harness/pcm and trans for 500 bucks, he's planning on doing a v8 swap as he's got an '01 3.8 atm. so he's going to sell the wiring and all that jazz plus the trans and buy a complete harness for a mustang plus the ecu and he wants either a t-45 or a 3650. so would it matter what year mustang he gets the ecu/harness from? should it be the same year as his car or does it matter since the whole thing is being replaced? also if anyone knows is there any major difference between this motor and one in a mustang? like different accessory locations, cam profiles, heads, intake assembly, etc. any help would be greatly appreciated. Ok, he should get a harness from a 99+ since it has the coil on plug instead of the 96-98 which has coil packs. Everything is the same cept for the intake and I am pretty sure that it's the same, just that the throttle body is turned the wrog way.

yeah I figured a 99+ harness and computer. But thts great news. So he'd need all of the intake pieces then but other than that he'll be set. Sweet. Another quesion, should he match the harness/ ECM with the trans he gets? Like if he gets a t45 to get a pre-01 harness and a after 01 harness with the 3650? Or does that matter since it's a manual?

Definitely stick with the PCM of the year of the tranny.
