best DR for my application.

Recently got new-er rims (same kind, but with the clear coat) and I have these old ones kickin' around. I figure buy some Dr's for them since I do make the occational trip to the strip from time to time.

They are 17x8 and I was looking into MT et street, but i noticed that they offer several different kinds.

ET street
ET street radial
ET street radial II

So what would you say, what ones would be best for my stock rim as a pure drag strip tire.

I heard that 26.00 x 11.50-17 was ok for them if it was a pure drag set up

I don't know the difference between the radial and the radial 2, but I would go with one of those if your driving to the track. The ET Street is a bias ply tire, and IMO really shouldn't be driven on the street. It's basically a slick with grooves to meet DOT standards to be used in street tire classes. If you're going to get those, I think you might as well just buy slicks.

Get the radials... either one, it dont matter

seeing that you don't have a built rear I don't think you'll safely be able to use the MT's to their full potential. I'd go with nittos.

I have a question for those of you who are axle guru's. Do our axles work like the half shalfs of the cobras in the fact that the slicks will take some of the stress of the launch just like they do on the cobra half shafts??? I mean guys with cobras will run slicks before drag radials just because they take the stress of the launch a little bit better. So whats everyone's views on this.

Isn't the nitto 555r more of a street drag then a track one? I mean since I'm only using them for the track, I could even change them there if I wanted to.

I do see people using the radial more the the other one. What is a safe rpm to launch at with them, w/ stock axles.

slicks on a live axle car are not like the cobra you have a better chance of snapping one with slicks.

go with the MT ET street radial

No, the Nitto is just a cost effective DR cuz you can get more mileage out of them. Street or track, the M/T's are going to grip better, I'm switching to a set when I get my tax return. More people use the radials because like I said, you can change the wheels at your house and drive to the track if they're not your dailys. If you have someone to watch your street wheels while your racing, and carry the race wheels to the track, by all means, just by a slick if you can find one to fit your wheel, and if not the ET streets. But if you need to be able to drive to the track on your race tires, radials are the way to go. As far as launching on the stock axles, your guess is as good as mine.

I suggest this tire, as it provides the most traction.

As some have said about, the M/T would be best for grip but they don't last nearly as long as the Nitto 555r. I myself would buy the Nittos due to they are the best when it comes to tire wear, even though I'm iffy about the Nittos hooking.
