The best bet would be to part it out, the heads and cams, cleaned up in a box ready to be shipped, are probably worth more than the whole car.

I did that some years ago with my '90 Miata that was in quite similar condition (bad paint, noisy rear-end, leaking rear main, 210k miles). I put the car back to stock and sold it for $1100, then sold the ECU, supercharger, header, exhaust, fuel pump, etc. on eBay for $3700. There's no way I would have gotten $4800 for the car with the goodies still on it...
+1 honestly its a $500 car in that shape, but I didnt want to be a *****.

Yeah I was uncomfortable saying what I did, but I thought a dose of reality was needed in the discussion...

Its hard to realize what a car is worth now... I would cry if i had to sell my car, I would not get anything! Parting it out id make a Pretty penny...

Good luck with your decision, I would just keep it. I think its worth more than 1k.... If I had a 98 stang id spend 2-3k for it... Just keep the heads, Gears. part out the rest and make some cash... Interior pieces are expensive...

You need to bring it to Ky and sell it, something in that condition will fetch you around 1500-1800 here. I wouldnt pay more than 1000.00 myself for it, if your not happy with the price keep fixing it up and keep it.

You could also try to find another Mustang of the same vintage, bone stock with lower miles and in better shape, and switch all the goodies you have on the current pos to the new ride. Return the pos ride to stock & running with the "new" car parts and unload it for a grand in an attempt to recoup a portion of your expenses. It sounds to me like you're a little fed up and just want a reliable DD, so this might be a little too complicated and more work than you want to do, but I guess it's yet another idea worth brief consideration.

Just an update took the car to a transmission shop he says it sounds more like a engine or transmission mount. And after the 900 mile trip of ticking after I let the car sit overnight it doesnt tick at all untill you WOT a couple times. I might keep it if thats the case of a transmission mount. You guys sure do think cars are worthless my car with what i said above and runs fine for 1000 bucks? my friend got a 305 camaro 81 or 82 with rust, no ac, bad tires, and 210k miles that ran like **** for $900.

Find me a Rio red SN95 that isnt oxidized yet and hasnt been painted in the passed 5 years. Ive pulled off 2 roof rails and a rear bumper off 2 diffrent junkyard cars paint matched flawlessly. Everyone is talking like my car has dents all over it its got a small quarter size ding in the pass side door and the paint is faded(not scratched, chiped, cracked).

Yes, and with that and the numerous mechanical problems you describe it's a $1000 car--tops.

It's a 13-year old, not at all rare (one of 18,464 made) car with 135k miles on it. You can buy a low mileage '05 GT here in NE Florida for $12.5k or so, an '07 for $17k. Resale value of GTs is pretty bad. I paid $12k my '03 with 30k miles, in December of '06...
