stupid rim question...
i have legit chrome cobra R 18's from ford...is it true that ford puts like some protective **** over their rims to protect against damage from like salt from the winter...last year i avoided driving the car completely after it snowed but this year id like to not have to buy a battery so ive been driving it around town a little bit because a friend of mine said "ford coats their rims so they arent ruined in salt"...would that statement be true? im just getting sick of having to whipe them down after every use....this friend has black/chrome fr500's from ford that he drives in everyday and doesnt whipe em down when they covered in salt, should i advise him to stop doing that? lol

I thought all rims have a protective coating on them. I dont have to deal with snow and salt on the roads, so I dont know if replacing rusted rims is normal for ya'll up north.

They dont rust cus they are aluminum...the oxidize. But you should be fine until you get a nick in the chrome. Then watch out. But chrome might be different than painted/coated wheels. I know all the painted ones and the machined look ones are cleared over. Dont know about the chrome though.

yea, that was like the purpose for my question, i dont wanna have to clean em everytime i got for a drive lol, his are black so they r painted so maybe his situation is different, ive had a thin dusting of salt on the chromes for 2 days now cuz its been freezing cold, water freezes as soon as i tried to put it on the rim, lol...i guess ill just keep up with the regular cleaning...the downside of chromes =/

I've never heard of that. If i were you, i would have taken the wheels off. F8ck, i'm from jersey too and i take off my black bullitts with the polished/machined lip.. For some reason they are already oxidizing (never driven in the salt), and i don't want them to oxidize further. I can't believe you have chrome and you still have them on haha. I see people in trucks with their wheels still on, but they must go to the car wash everyday or something. The wheel will pit!!!! Get em off or just keep wiping them down..
Speaking of being from NJ, where are you? I'm up in morris county. 30min from NYC
