Auto 1/4 mile shifting question
Looking for opinions on how to handle the shifting on an automatic tranmission at the strip. In the past my automatics have always had manual valve bodies, or a manual transmission either way I always shifted. Now I have a 2001 GT, automatic with stock stall converter, a Vortech V1 supercharger 8psi, 3.73 gears and I will be running 275/40 Nitto NT05R drag radials, traction control off. Do I just put it in drive and let the car shift, or do I start in 1 and manually shift it, I know it depends on the RPM but as a general rule do leave OD on of off. As for the burn out do I leave it in drive or? I've been racing the past 10 years but this will be my first with this car and I am looking to gain from others experiences.

I just let the car do all the work though I have thought about trying this out myself to see if I notice any difference. Turn OD off, same with TC. To do a burn out with the DR's, just walk it thru the waterbox, leave it in D, press the brake in, bring the rpms up till they start to spin, 3-5 seconds should be enough, then stage. Start there then play around with it. Try longer burnouts, shorter burnouts, so forth and so on to see how the car changes. With my stockers, I just give them a quick spin, anything more and my 60' suffers.

yes i did , i could only get up to about 1700 rpms ,with stock stall and street tires though.i tried early last year just going from an idle ,but bringing it up in rpms seemed to work better. but with your experience ,im sure it wont tale long to find better ways for you.
