Default Why can't I luck out??

Some people have all the luck and I just can't seem to find any. I have read post after post about people finding 99-04 engines for less than $1,000, why can't that person be me???? I have been looking for a long time now and all I can find are 98 GT engines that are in fact less than $1,000 but they have something wrong with them or I get screwed over by someone on craigslist. All the 99-04 engines I find have an average price of $1,600 and that don't include shipping. And to be honest, that's something I can't afford right now. My 98 GT is about ready to give up on me and I really need a newer engine within the next month. And to make things worse, my car just started making an erie squealing sound when I press on the accellerator, and not the kind of squealing thats caused from a loose belt or something. I can't explain it and I will post a vid later on so you guys can see what I am talking about. Anyways, just a little down right now and needed to talk about it. Thanks.

Why do you think you need a whole new engine how many miles do you have on it?

My engine has 157,000 miles on it, my piston rings are totally shot and Im burning oil like a *****. I havent done a compression test, i will get to that in the next few days, but all signs point to bad rings. It would just be cheaper to buy a used engine rather than to do a complete tear down of my current one just to get to the pistons. I will post a vid on here to show you guys how bad I am burning oil. I am driving to tennessee at the end of april for a 6 week class and don't think she will make it there.

Considered a Mark VIII swap? They are usually much cheaper and easier to find. Plus they have arguably the best 4.6L block out there.

I went with an extreme budget on mine. I got it fully swapped for around $450 and that was with a new King Cobra clutch. Search around, they are easy to find. Do you have any pick and pull junkyards near you?

Yeah theres a couple pick and pulls around here. So you only spent around $450 on the entire swap? Not bad at all! I read your sticky about the swap and it sounds like something I don't even want to attempt and try to do. And you know shops would charge an arm and a leg to do something like that. What year mark VIII engine would be the best to go in my 98 GT?

Yeah, I got the complete motor for $219 when I pulled it myself. The I had to buy some manifolds and a clutch. The swap is almost the exact same as a 2V swap, just a few more things to consider. 97-98 Mark VIII engines are best since they have beehive valve springs, non shrouded valves, and a better intake.
