Default Flycutting 18 cc dish pistons

When I had my shortblock built, the guy said he couldnt really do anything with the pistons because they were already dished. It sounded kind of odd to me, was he full of crap or right?

Whats the goal here??? I think that you can probably cut the dish down but im not 100% sure on that one.

he probably didn't realize that ptv issues on these motors don't actually occur in the dish. if you have problems it will hit on the far side of the piston. what cams do you plan on running?

If he was worried about the PTV clearance, i dont think that he would be fly cutting the entire top of the piston. If he was worried about that, he would just be getting the pistons notched for the cams. It sounds like to me that he wants a slight bump in compression or something other than to put cams into it. I may be wrong but thats what i think. OP, if youre wanting to put cams in, all you gotta do is notch the pistons which is perfectly fine to do.

Sounds like crap to me. as said earlier ptv contact is on the outer edge where there is no dish anyway, and if teej is right and you were wanting to cut the top off them all together for more compression, that wouldn't work unless you got a rod that was as much longer as the amount you took off the piston, otherwise you just lowered the compression by getting the top of the piston further away from the combustion chamber at tdc.

That's kinda what MMR did to me^^^
I am still able to run a stage 2 blower cam though so in the end I'm happy

I am gonna be running CMS 2.5 blower cams, which don't require any notching but I figured I better be safe than sorry. I told him I wanted it done so I didnt run into PTV issues and he said there was nothing he could take off.

BULLSH!T!!! You can notch the pistons without an issue. Your mechanic is retarded.
