Default Want reliable power from GT. Boost or top-end?

Hey. I noticed that for about $4000 I could either bolt on a blower or get heads, cams, intake manifold and plenum/throttle body. Either way I would like about 375 - 400 at the crank. I know these 2v engines aren't the strongest with their powdered metal rods.

Which method do you guys think would be the most reliable while retaining stock streetability? If I went with a blower it would have to be roots. I want a clean factory look.
I love boost but have the feeling a built top end would put less of a beating on the bottom end than a blower would.

Thanks,

Oliver

with heads and cams + full bolt ons (that includes Long tubes, o/r midpie, cold air intake, chip tune, etc, etc, which is well over the $4000 you have to spend) you might see 320 wrhp (pretty generous estimate at that).

with a KB you can keep the boost down and sit at 400 rwhp pretty safely no problem

either way if you want to be real safe, you will have to upgrade your internals

Ehh. This car is in too good of shape for me to want to play with internals. How much boost do low power roots blowers put out? You think 7 psi is safe for stock internals? It's my girlfriend's ride so I'm sure it would be driven conservatively. The only non-stock item on the car is the Borla cat-back. Also, who makes a roots kit for the gt?

+2 I would just go for a blower. Youll be safe at 400rwhp with a good tune.

Kenne bell will be more than $4k and you can run it to 9-10psi safely and make about 400rwhp, but its all in the tune.

with 4 grand you can get the new trickflow heads, cams and intake and injectors, tuner for right at 4k.

if your worth your salt you can install it all very easily, you will proble need help with the cams, but even still you could do that by just following a book. if you can do your own tuning you could easily be at 350rwhp n/a for 4 grand. The TF heads have been out long enough for some cars to surface. 350 rwhp is fairly easy to obtain from the 3 cars iv seen on other forums.

if you go with a blower, ull easily max out the block with a smaller pulley and intercooler lol. Just depends on if you want n/a or psi. I prefer n/a because the torque curve is fuggin insane.

yeah with the TFS heads you can do over 320rwhp. but if you aren't doing the install yourself, you can end up spending quite a bit of cash. plus doing lots of head and cam work on these cars can make them suck to drive on the streets.

400 crank horsepower is around 350whp so thats a pretty safe level of power for these cars. i personally am gonna stop at 350whp when i put my vortech on just so i can beat on my car and not have to cross my fingers everytime i stomp the gas. if you want a roots blower try to find a used KB, will run you around 4 grand even for a used one though.

cheaper option: check out torquetech.com especially since you want a factory look. takes the 03/04 cobra eaton and bolts it to a 2v. 1900$ for the adapter plates (ive seen them for sale on other sites for 1650~ or so), you will need to buy the blower, heat exchanger, coolant pump, and reservoir and some hoses. you should be able to find some used parts from a wrecked/upgraded cobra. total your looking at around 3 grand for all the parts you need for the eaton to work (when you could do a vortech build for 2,000 but you don't want that route).
