are gears worth it?

Classic example is my car for example. I have a built rear with 4.10s but the d*ckwipe that I bought it from never calibrated the gears, now I have been driving it as my commuter car for a year and haven't really gotten the chance to save for a tuner while paying rent/car payment/insurance/gas/school loans. Now I'm driving a car thats in PERFECT condition, can't tell how many miles are on it because on the highway at 70mph the speedo reads 100mph and it says 77k miles on the odometer. What am I to do now? Just ignore it? Do the gears and calibrate the odometer asap.

if i were to do the gears soon and wait 2 weeks for another paycheck maybe a month at most.. could it be real bad though? becuase the main reason is my rear dif is close to screaming gotta do the bearing so i may have to do the gears sooner than expected im running oout of time

sonicmustang143 brings up a good point. I know your in a jam and can't wait due to the bearing otherwise you could do it all at once. Idk, i guess you could squeeze by watching you O/D and keeping track how much you put on. Well at least where im at no shop have ever told me i needed to buy a tuner from them that i've talked to. I haven't switched over yet but one of my friend had the same issue and same year of car as you. He took it to a local shop.... redid the bearing plus said why not added gears. They just paid the shop extra to redialed it in. He never had a tuner... just full exhaust. I think if i couldn't afford to do it all at once or can't recal it then i'd just do bearing and save up for another time. But thats just me.
