Default shift lights... come on down!

So, Shift lights. What options are really out there? I'm looking at jegs and sites like that and are finding price ranges from as low as $54.99 to as high as $150+.

What do you think I should pay for a decent shift light? I want the LED lights, and not the "amber" old-school style if possible. I am looking pretty much right now at something by MSD, but am open to suggestions.

What is the purpose of having a single stage shift light? a dual stage (possibly multiple settings) shift light?

Also, I might sound stupid, but how do they actually get a RPM reading?? That seems like as simple enough answer, but I just don't know!

I plan to set the light to ~54-5500 rpms to keep myself from blowing my motor (until I can forge the internals)

Thank you in advance

Raptor shift lights are legit. They are somewhat expensive, but they use LED's and they are pretty good quality. They make ones with a launch feature so that might be something to look into.

which one is that again? Can you manually change the actual rpms for the light to come on at?

nice gauge pod. I am waiting for one of those gauge pods from AM as we speak actually. Ordered it a month ago... today they told me it should be in the the end of THIS MONTH. Is it worth the wait or should I just buy a cheap one?

oh yeah, and one more thing. Those white face gauges, how did you acquire them? did you replace the entire cluster or just buy inserts?
