Its bs he doesnt warranty his work, but if its gonna run right then thats not too bad. I mean I just got 4.10s put in me and my mechanic friend did it its messed up so hes bringing it in again for free since it wasn't done right you would think he would do the same. sorry you got screwed but enjoy it being done right

The thing is he didn't find anything wrong with it but he says if he did then it would have been free. But for all I know he fixed whatever it was and is charging me for it and then sayin there wasn't anything wrong with it ya know. I doubt thats the case but its always a possibility. I'm putting different heads on it so if its still making the noise its gotta be in the trans/clutch. I am just pissed that he offered to look at it and implied it would be done as a favor and then threw a bill at me. Oh well thanks for the input guys.

Is this machinist a reputable guy ? like his work , word and quality ? If not I would have not taken it to him. I mean $260 for a tear down and piece together is not bad but its kind of a Yin and Yang situation.

ehhh i don't feel good either way on that one.
DEFINATELY your at fault for not asking if this was going to cost you. however, if the motor is making noise there's something possibly wrong with the motor and if there was any sort of warranty on your re-assembly they need to investigate it. he's shady for charging, your wrong for assuming that something was going to be for free (nothing ever is). you could possibly bring up the warranty if your motor came with one.
if nothing else, this was a life lesson you learned.

That sucks man I've had that happen when people imply that they'll do it as a favor but end up charging you. Sounds like a mis-communication, maybe you could bring it up to your buddy and say you didn't know it was gonna cost you anything. Hopefully your buddy isn't trying to rip you off or anything. Either way I'm sure things will work out, sorry your having a rough one man.
