Exclamation Friends car is leaking gear oil

So my friends car (2004 GT) has be leaking gear oil for awhile now. It started out small and has seem to have gotten worse. So tonight we are going to jack up his car and see where the leak is coming from. Quick question.....Is there anyway to check the "level" or of gear oil so we know if we need to add any until he can take it to a shop and get it fixed? And also how do you add any to it? I have alot of experience with modding cars and working on them but this is a big "Gray Area" for me lol. Thanks Guys!

Isn't there a plug on the upper part of the pumpkin that you fill til it starts dripping out. And then you put the plug back on...

??

I know it was that way on a truck I just looked at. Havn't looked at my mustangs though... I would think that's a pretty common thing though.
