Default Shipping wheels & tires

What have you guys found to be the best / cheapest way to ship wheels & tires?

My car is away from home for about 6 months while I travel for a project. The tires on my current 18's are shot. I have a perfectly good set of stock bullitt wheels and tires at the house and I am thinking of having them shipped to me rather than dropping bank on new tires for the 18's.

Any suggestions?...Let me know what you guys have done...

FYI, its going to cost about $30 per wheel/tire to ship, they weigh about 50lbs each.

$120 isn't too bad. It's a lot better than spending $700 - $800 for new tires.

I've shipped several sets of wheels. Usually about $100.00 for ground. Just cut out some cardboard to protect the front and the back of the wheel and either use bands or tape to secure the cardboard, unless of course you have some big boxes.

Thinking about using a cardboard disc for the front of the wheel and wrapping the whole thing in plastic wrap.

When I've bought wheels from Tire Racj they send them w/ a cardboard disc on both sides and plastic straps retaining the discs.

When I purchased mounted tires / wheels from Porsche they sent them within a custom cardboard carton / pallet only to a shipping dock, two-high, two-wide and it cost a lot.
