Default Just Bought a 2000 GT 5 speed

And I don't know much about it. What are some known problems with them and maybe some things I should know to prevent future failures? What kind of maintenance should I do to this thing other then the regular oil changes and such? The car has 52k miles and has been garage since new, also it was never drivin in snow, and rain was avoided as much as possible. It was babied and taken very good care of. I'm pretty good with cars but the newest car that I have done extensive work to was a 93 Taurus SHO, so I'm kind of behind the times, I owned and still own a 98 F-150 with the 5.4 (owned her since 04) but I never really did anything but drive. So moduars and I might not get along yet haha. Any input is greatly appreciated

hey man. welcome to the new edge's. im new to the 4.6 myself had mine a lil under a month. i come from the 3.8 side.

know problems: spark plugs blowing out of the engine (make sure you torque them down everyother oil change at least), IAC (idle air control vavle) going bad the car will turn over but not have the rpms to stay running and will stall out.

maintinence: oil change (3k miles conventional, 7-9k miles synthetic), trans fluid change (i think its every 30k miles), rear diff fluid change (idk about this one, maby every 60k miles?), pcv vavle (again im guessing, 75k miles?), and then power steering flush (every 60k), coolant flush (idk maby every 30k, or when it goes bad)

You have to tq spark plugs that often? Do they really loosen up that easy? If that's the case how do I get those things out easy, it looks like a little bit of a pain in the *** haha. Thanks for the good info though I'm definitly going to get on takign care of this thing.

Also about the intake manifold, I read they like to crack, is that pretty much not an if it will crack, but a when?

Yea mine cracked on me...after i got LTs, and cams. So i got an aluminum one. There are many choices out there. But i mean there aren't MANY problems with these cars. Just do the regular matinence on them and they'll last forever.

I'm just curious as I hadn't really heard of too many issues with them either but I had a mechanic tell me that they are notorious for power steering issues. Any truth to this?

I have 140,000 miles on my 2000GT. The last 60,000 were supercharged with LT headers. I have not had too many maintenance issues. I have never re-torqued a sparkplug, I'm running the original lower intake and I'm still running a stock clutch. (Maintenance history says it was changed under warranty by the original owner. I think it was a throw out bearing problem.) But, spitting out plugs and lower intakes cracking at the thermostat are known problems.

Besides brakes, tires, and other consumable parts. I've had one COP go bad and I've had to change both front wheel hubs (bearings went bad around 125,000-130,000 miles). My rear wheel bearings were changes when I upgraded to a 31 spline rear end. I haven't had water pump problems but I went electric when the supercharger was installed.

The most irritating problem I've had is with the driver's side seat belt not retracting all the way. This too is a well documented problem.

What lower intake manifold do you guys reccomend? I want this thing reliable, and would like to replace parts BEFORE they break... to a degree. Intake manifold leaves me stranded, thats bad, so it should be changed.
