Default T-56 whoas.....

Ok so i am almost done with the stupid car...and im ready to drive it, but somthing is always wrong!!! basically i got the wrong driveshaft with what i got, no biggie, kinda my fault for not check. But heres the real issue, the tranny mount that i got from American muscle doesnt work? The mount is offset right, but the holes for the tranny bolts themselfs are just as wide as the t-45 bolts, and the tailshaft houseing i have on the t-56 is much narrower bolt holes.... Any ideas? Do i have the wrong tail shaft houseing on the T-56? i mean it seems to fit and line up good other than that. Basically just 2 bolts and a DS are whats keeping me from my rebuild and tranny swap being done. Any ideas At all?

im pretty sure he didnt have this problem. i remember him having to change some wires i think, and maybe massage the tranny tunnel a bit. Im just guessing i got a diff tail housing. Unless for some reason i maybe got a mount for a t-56 with a t-45 mount on it....which i find unlikly.

Ill probebly mark it out tomarrow and drill 2 new holes. Seeing how its designed it doesnt seem to provide a huge a mount of support. And my stock motor mount being fried at 115k and the tranny mount being fine kinda makes me feel even stronger about just drilling new holes. I was just curious if anyone else ran into this before

I purchased a Cobra X-member for my install and is exactly the same as the T-3560 bolt pattern, only moves the holes back about 1" (this is the difference in trans length). I am just about positive that my original X-member mount probably would have worked, because the "holes" on the body side of the X-member were actually slots so the bracket could have likely been slid back to accomodate the 1" difference.

I never tried it as I already had the proper bracket, but if your bolts don't even have the same spacing, I don't know what is wrong

well near as i can figure, i somehow managed to get a t-56 from a cobra, with a gm style tail housing? Because when i checked the numbers on the tranny like a year ago, they came out as a factory ford style number, or at least as far as i could understand it. but it apears to have a gm style tail housing swap....i mean the splines input and output are still matched up. So im thinking maybe someone bought a t-56 from a mustang for cheep hopeing to swap into thier gm...But i beleive there are to many differences between them. so maybe he only swap the tail shaft housing....other than that im clueless.

Did any of the ford t-56 have the auto gear select thing on it? Its a silonoid on the side of the tranny, the under the perfect circumstances will make you go from 1st to 4th. it was a fuel economy thing that gm did on most of thise t-56 cars. I have one on this tail housing...?

Pepe my swap thread... the solenoid on the side of the trans is the reverse lock-out. I got into great detail about that switch and the options in which you can do.

damit i totally forgot about that...so my car is now running, lol so what are my options? with no power to it can i still get in reverse? or can i just completely remove it? i know you made a spring change so you dont have to run power.... but from what i read all three will work right? one will be really hard, your way makes it easier and completly removing it means you could put it where you dont want it on accident....how hard is it to run a 12v power you think?

Running power is not difficult, but a good place for a convenient switch was going to be the issue for me. I have found reverse a couple times, but this happens. Mostly because I am soo used to a 5 speed from the previous 23 years of driving one, I will sometimes forget I am in 6th gear and momentarily think I am in 4th

I am VERY happy with the spring, but can run your ride just as she is without any mods to the reverse switch and no power. It will be HARD to get into reverse, but you will NEVER find it while on the freeway I am sure.
