Cool Is my intake cracked? ***PICS***

Where the hose from the radiator connects to the plastic intake, there is some....strange **** around the connection. It looks like it was melted or evaporated on there:

Also, there is some coolant here (could that just be because it overflowed? not a leak?)

Massive T-stat gasket leak. remove the housing and brush/sand all the crud off of the mating surface and where the hose attaches. get a new thermostat and gasket, as well as a real hose clamp, clean, replace, and flush the radiator fluid.

i would def pull the housing off and clean everything and check for cracks, if its not cracked then just put a new gasket in. eventually its almost guaranteed to crack tho. u might just wanna upgrade ur intake

The crusty is just coolant that has seeped out and cooked. Has this happened suddenly or slowly building up ?

+1

also while its all clean and taken apart, looks for tiny cracks. even the slightest crack will cause leakage. ask me how i know lol. you might also think about replacing your upper radiator hose just because

It has looked like that since last year. I haven't made any attempt to clean it, but it has gotten a little worse since the first time I've seen it.

..I just realized that I posted the wrong picture for the very last one. I fixed it now, but here it is anyway:

Is that also from a crappy gasket? Or could that just be normal 'overflow'?

Has your car ever overheated? That would be the most likley cause of the leak around the cap. Also make sure the cap seals tightly.

My car hasn't overheated...at least to my knowledge. The temp gauge hasn't ever gone beyond the exact middle. At times the coolant can get below the fill line but that's when I'm driving the car regularly. There isn't any coolant on the floor so maybe the cap wasn't tightened enough the last time I got the coolant system flushed, because each time I check the level I tighten the sumbitch.

Is it possible that I fill it up too much, which would cause it to squeeze out from the cap itself when the car is on?

That is definately possible, the coolant expands quite a bit when its warm. there should be a warm, and cool marking on the reservoir to fill to depending on the engine temp.

The only other biggest cause of coolant coming out of the reservoir cap is possibly a blown head gasket that is over pressurizing the coolant system, and also why you have to periodically add coolant.

Someone else can chime in on the head gaskets as I don't recall seeing many problems with the 4.6 head gaskets.

My intake was leaking from the same spot *where the hose meets the housing the for the thermostat*...

I just went ahead and got a new intake with the improved crossover anyways...

You'll be fine just pulling off the upper line, pulling the thermostat and replacing the gasket *just a small round **** ring looking bastard*
