Default T-45 11'' Clutch?

So I'm changing the clutch in the Mustang the past few days, but it has been nothing but a headache. Not because the install is going horrible, it's because all the parts seem to be wrong.

I check my VIN code and see that the 8th character is a X. That means I have an 8 bolt crankshaft, right? Wrong. It's a 6 bolt. I find that out after the transmission is already out and I have an 8 bolt flywheel waiting to go in. I don't know where I heard that, but I shouldn't have believed it!

I check the TR code on the door and it's a 6. That means I have a T-45. I didn't know Tremec made T-45's... So maybe I have a TR-3650?

I ordered a clutch to work with the T-45 up to the Mid 01 GT's (10.5''); that doesn't work because the flywheel is clearly an 11'' flywheel. So now I have a clutch and flywheel that's useless because I don't know how to read.

Has this happened to anybody else?

I thought the T-45 were 10.5" and T-3650 were 11". I also think the 8th digit is the engine code.

Man I wish there was some way to clear this up. I definitely have an 11'' clutch. And my transmission is a Tremec. The transmission code in the door says it's a T-45. Is there anyway to identify the transmission by the code on the side of the it?

Tremec acquired the Borg-Warner tooling and license for the T-45 in late 1998, your 2001 could have a Tremec T-45 as the changeover to the 3650 was made in the mid-2001 MY.

The 8th digit of the VIN indicates the engine displacement and number of cylinders, "X" = 4.6L V8 SOHC. Transmission code 6 on the data plate indicates a T-45 transmission.

I believe that all of the '99 through '04 GT's used 11" clutches--could be wrong here though...

Well I definitely have an 11'' clutch and the transmission is made by Tremec...I hoping it's a T-45 because 10,XXX miles ago I put an MGW short throw in for T-45 and it's been doing fine.

Sounds to me that you do have a T-45 which is a 11"
Did a clutch in a 03 Mustang GT and that was a 10 XX.

IMO your ok if you get a 11"
Good luck

I have an 11" clutch in a T-45 but it is aftermarket ford racing.
