Default How many is too many

I've found a '01 GT with 71K mi I'm interested in. Is that a lot for that engine or is there a magic number as far as miles go on the 99-04 4.6L's go?

They run for 150k easy so 71k is nothing. Mine had 90k exactly on the clock when i bought it...117k now and runs fine. Its all in how it was treated.

pshtt, 100k is nothin on these motors!! crown vics and taxis in ny all have the 4.6 and when they retire they have close to 300-500k on the odo. I feel like i say this everday. Someone please make a sticky about how these motors dont just die at 100k.. thanks.

71K miles on an engine that has been maintained according to the manual is nothing to worry about.

BUT, there's a lot more to the car than a motor. A manual trans will last a long time, but a clutch won't. Automatics that have not been maintained generally don't last long. And then there's the shocks, tires, batteries, etc.

When you look at the car and the price, keep those items in mind.
