Ebay Headlights? Aneyone Have Them?

My 2000 GT needs some new headlights. I saw some on American Muscle for around $200.00 or I can get some off ebay for around $100.00.

I was wondering if anyone has the ebay headlights. I just want to make sure fitment and overall quality is decent. The car is 10 years old with almost 100k on it so I dont care about having top notch stuff.

Go with American muscle, there won't be anyone to talk to when the ebay headlighs burn out, "what size light bulb is this"

I have the black dual angel Eyes, the LEDs are beautiful.

Bought the AM headlights as soon as i got my 2000 GT 6 years ago they faded around 4 years in the car, then i got the ebay ones, the fitment was good enough, I would get them from ebay again if i had too, they are good quality (similar or the same as AM) and also they have more choices and againg 100 bucks saved for something else is always good

Just make sure you seal the headlights with silicone were the lense meets the housing and you will be fine with ebay lights. Don't worry about the bulbs if you get the stock or tinted headlights (non-halo) you'll be fine, and by the way, why are halo headlights not considered rice on a Mustang? I see lots of stangs with boy ricer halos get props. Strictly black housing stock or tinted for me!

cliffyk 07-12-2010 09:33 PM

eBay doesn't sell headlights, they just provide a venue for various vendors to do so.

I bough a set advertised on eBay from an outfit called Blue Oval Industries over 3 years ago , they fit and have held up fine. However the fellow that answered the phone, when I called to let them know the packaging sucked and had broken open in shipping (the housings were OK), was a real dick--I would not have wanted to call with a problem.

I was kinda in the same boat. I try to stay with products provided by AM. I had wanted to get rid of the headlight covers, so I decided to buy some smoked head lights. When dealing with Ebay it's very important to look at their sales rating and even read some of their feedback. If they are not at least 97% and continiously get negative feedback, I don't buy from them. Anyways one company was selling the headlights that I wanted. When I compared them to the AM headlights they were preety much identical. I bought them and havent had any problems. Also I saved about a hundred and ten bucks...

Sweet, looks like its the ebay headlights for me. Thanks everyone.

Don't do it! Ive gone through a pair, the sealing was horrible! I siliconed it but it was still ****ty! You get what you pay for!

liljojo4711 07-13-2010 09:16 AM

i got some smoked headlights from ebay and sealed them. if u go smoked i would definitely get HID's though.

Just in case I start to have issues, how did you seal yours?

devongarver 07-13-2010 10:02 AM

I have a set of Smoked ones that are the same ones you see often on ebay. I sealed them when I got them, following this guide from AM and they are great. No complaints, and half the price.

Kenny_k82 07-13-2010 12:31 PM

Mine sealed fine off of ebay and they look great for $75. The only issue is that the rubber along the top of one of the headlights is peeling off after a month. Lame...

lizzyfan 07-13-2010 12:38 PM

I have had ebay headlights for over 4 years and have held up well

I had heard a lot of horror stories about BOI but I liked their headlights so I got them anyways. I wasn't overly impressed with the initial fitment so I called the guy to discuss with them about it. He was very responsive at first, but then just disappeared a few short days later. After a lot of adjusting the headlights look alright....

Same thing happened to my AM lights, don't feel to bad.

cliffyk 07-13-2010 02:56 PM

They are all made in China--probably in the same factory...

I've actually heard from individuals who claim to have done a little more checking on all of these headlight housings and they say the same thing.

Taiwan, says on the sticker!

DarkShadow04 07-13-2010 05:39 PM

the rubber around the headlights that you see when they are installed is garbage and they crack/come off...if u seal em they wont leak but that rubber piece makes em look terrible, wish i just bought from american muscle, but i dont own that car anymore so now its somebody elses problem lol

ahhh good old blue oval...we had a thread about their lack of service a few months back. I wrote them a nice email...haha

I have the HID's smoked ones from ebay. They work fine. However, the high beams both went out for some reason, do I have to replace the entire lights?

I would reccommend changing the bulbs out 1st..

MineralGrey 07-15-2010 01:03 PM

I have had ebay headlights for 3years now and only complaints were they were fogging up so i drilled a hole on the bottom of each headlight and re-silicone them have been fine since. However now the vinyl side markers in the headlight are starting to twist and warp with the heat and the clear coat is peeling so I just plan on taking them out and smoking them. I cant complain i got mine for $75 myself.

btw some of AM's current products quality is not as top notch as it used to be i have had some bad experiences with products from stack racing specifically

runnin ebay headlights and they look and fit perfectly. They also came with 2 brand new set of bulbs all for like $69

cliffyk 08-25-2010 03:42 PM

I just received these today, they are virtually identical to the OEM housings--the exception being the clear sidelight/reflector.

http://www.paladinmicro.com/images/2...Headlights.jpg

Materials, assembly, fit and finish were as good as they could be--$89.99 w/ free shipping--guess I'll be set for another 3-1/2 years now...

I will never buy from Blue Oval EVER after several bad friends experiences...look at their rating on BBB its terrible for a reason

0949er 08-25-2010 06:21 PM

ebay headlights suck. I bought some for my 99 and the NIGHT I installed them I wanted to get a gas-station car wash to take a nice pic w/ the new lights and they FOGGED UP THE MOMENT I GOT OUT OF THE DAMN CAR WASH.

Hangwire 08-25-2010 06:22 PM

Good thread, been tossing around diff ideas to deal with my weathered headlights. Probably going to get some headlight film put on them for now.

Did you seal them first? All of the aftermarket HL's i have encountered were in definite need of being sealed with some RTV first. It's easy to do and doesn't cost much or take long. In fact, AM has a little how-to on it here.

I have a cheapo set i bought used from a member on here, can't remember who lol. They are only about a year old and the clear coat is already peeling. However, I am starting to wonder if i didn't have something affect my entire car, as my clear coat on my hood and fenders is peeling as well..weird.
