One other observation, there is very little difference between what is now being sold as 91 octane, and the current 87 octane fuels. You can see this being dealt with in the base Global Adder settings, -0.5° for 87 and 0.0° for 91, whereas the default setting for 93 octane is +2.0°.

The now available so-called "91" octane fuel has only slightly higher knock resistance and is sold to accommodate older vehicles, or granny's car that has never been over 45 mph, that may ping on the donkey-**** 87. But IMHO it's mostly a scam to charge people that don't know any better more money.

The 93 octane that is available in some states seems to be closer to a real 93 rating--one of the good things about the Florida heat (maybe the only good thing) is that we get to have 93 octane year round.

You guys are mostly younger, however have you noticed that gasoline doesn't even smell like gasoline anymore?

^Actually Cliff.. I was thinking about that the other day....I noticed that gasoline doesn't have as much of a strong distinct smell anymore.

You can (though I don't recommend it until you know what you are doing¹) change the timing, global or rpm based, to your heart's content--without any additional tools other than your own ears, to listen for pinging.

Do NOT mess with the fuel modifiers (any) unless you have a wide band O2 sensor; and again know what your are doing...

My recommendation is that for now you just run the base tune created by Special Forces and not modify anything with the Fine Tuning dialog.

¹ - "know what you are doing" means learning how engines work and reading Greg's book to learn how EFI engine controls work.

Innovate Motorsports Lc-1 wideband is a GREAT setup. Its only 200 bucks usually with a G2 analog gauge. Cliff and I both run that set up with no complaints.

The LC-1 is a good unit, my only concern is that since Innovate sold out to Performance Motorsports their support (which hadn't been all that great anyway) has gone further downhill.

They shut down their support forum in April, at first just for a "few days", but for the last 3 months there's just a "real soon now" banner.

That said, the LC-1 is a proven design and most of the problems people had were related in installation or placing the LC-1 controller in a location that subjected it to too much heat (like on the engine side of the firewall, etc.)

As to spending "money or more important things", there is nothing more important for optimising your engine's tune than a wideband O2 system. Without one you should just stick with the base tunes created by SF v2.x.

I will say this though: I wish I would have went with either the LM-1 or the Sniper branded version. I grow tired of looking at the wideband gauge all the time. It would be more beneficial to me to just plug the unit in when I want to use it rather than it always being there.

I am thinking about swapping to something else. If you are interested I may cut you a deal on my system.
