Default This Clutch is a B*tch...

Same sh*t different day my friends. Pretty sure, actually 99 percent sure that my clutch TOB is sh*tting the bed and needs to be replaced. So it seems that I will have to replace my TOB, clutch, flywheel, the whole 9 yards all at once.

I haven't even begun researching prices and which clutch, TOB and etc to go with. What do TOBs go for? Which clutch should I look into? Any light you guys get shed towards me on this is greatly appreciated.

I'm open to any suggestions/feedback/advice...While I'm in there, do you guys think I should just replace everything at once? If I can, I'll post a video after work of the sound of the TOB. Its a scraping sound that gets louder with RPMs, and I can literally feel it in the shifter. F'ing nightmare.

EDIT - Regarding clutch suggestions, If I do not decide to sell this car this fall (which has become an exact duplicate of my EX-girlfriend, fun to ride but a complete b*tch), the plan is for T trim (400/400 is the goal, like 0949er,Kernsy & SoldierGT) during this winter and will no longer be a DD. When I decide to build the motor in the future for big power I'll put a more appropriate clutch in. So I'm looking for advice on clutches that can handle 400-425 horse, an occassional *** raping on tires and one that won't make me need to sell a kidney to afford it.

And I'm looking to hear from all my buddies here! Teej, Hossy, Kernsy, Cliffy, Lizzy, 945LStang, Mike (01GT46), Matt (0949er), bodukes, Soldier, UBER, lets make this a good thread w/ good advice!

Thanks guys!!

Replace everything while you're in there. And centerforce is the only clutch I'd put in there man. Might look into a new 26 spline input shaft too to make things stronger to handle the power.

Well this topic is very opinion oriented. When i first did my supercharger setup I still had a stage 1 spec clutch installed and it didnt last long after the blower (the TOB was making noise since install). For the last 2 summers I been running a spec stage 2+ clutch with the piliot bearing and TOB that was included and it seems to be holding up great and it isnt killer on the foot. Now alot of people have nightmare stores about spec clutches and they seem to have a high failure rate. Its like hit or miss. Personally the next time I have to do a clutch I am going to with with a centerforce and a ford racing HD throw out bearing. The main reason I went with another spec was because I got a good deal on it and was kind of in a rush, but on the other side it has been treating me good so far no TOB noise, no slippage or overgrab seems to be working great. But i would throw my vote for a centerforce i know alot of locals that have them and they never had issues even with alot of miles on them.

I totally agree with teej281. I screwed my clutch up when I went to the track a couple years ago and insted of being cheap I reaplaced everything. I went with the Spec Stage II clutch. So far no issues, just hoping (Once I install the V1) it will be able to hold up at 400 HP.. That would suck having to buy another clutch.. Good luck bro..

I've always leaned towards Centerforce, probably because Teej has been telling me for months centerforce or bust lol.

Ford Racing Throw out bearing? Where can I pick one of those up?

So far I have -
Centerforce clutch - RPM Outlet
FR TOB - ?? (where to buy)

What other parts do I need to buy? clutch cable/quadrant?

Don't mean to sound like a noob by asking these questions, my buddy who always does all my work is a high end tuner mechanic and works on Porsches/BMWs/Mercedes/You name it, he does it. Anyway, he has a dream come true of a garage that he and his Dad built, with all the tools and a lift and etc. I usually cut a deal with him and bring a pizza, 12pack of corona and throw him 100 bucks (depending on the job) to teach me as he goes how to work on everything. I like to get all of my ducks in a row before I go there so we don't end up working on it all day and figuring out that I f'd up by forgetting to get something. Thanks for everything so far guys!

Come to think of it, it is just bizarre that the clutch is acting up like this. Its catches and engages well, but the bearings are shot...Is it possible to replace the TOB and pilot bearings and keep the flywheel/clutch and pickup a flywheel/clutch adjuster kit? Just rambling out ideas here.

Is it possible for the clutch to still be fine and the bearings be bad?
