Hood scoop need your input.
I decided to take the fake honey comb out of my hood scoop on my 2002 mustange gt convertible. I took out the fake honey comb and I was thinking of cutting a hole in my hood to make the air flow through my engine compartment. I have the right tools to do it. 1 I was thinking after taking the honey comb out it wouldnt be good for air going into the scoop and being trapped. 2 I was going to cut a hole in the hood ( make it look right) so the air wouldnt be trapped its not going to do anything but maybe look diffrent and make the air flow better.

The only way I would do this is to make it a function hood scoop. Meaning to fabricate ducting to route the air from the scoop to the air filter. But since mine is stuck out in the fender, there is no need/benefit to doing it.
Be careful, people have said that it CAN fly off on the highway. Some they it's never happened to them....you make the call.

I just didnt like the fake honey comb on the front Im not exspecting the hole to do anything but keep air flowing so like smitty said my scoop wont fly off on the free way. Sorry about my first post I was on my cell so I forgot the main portion of my question was has any one done this and is there a kit to make it go to the airfilter?

nope. not as far as I know. Only "kit" is the Mach 1 kit. I think it's a CDC Shaker or something. Go on American Muscle...they sell them. Not worth it IMO, you won't gain anything from them other than the "shaker" look.

The factory scoop and Mach 1 shaker are two of the very few scoops I really like for these cars... too bad I can't justify the cost on the shaker. Have you considered painting the insert a flat black? This way, it won't catch any glare and be scarce to the eye.

I did it and it works good!
Heres what I did...
I first took the scoop off and drilled out the whole honey comb with a 5/8s drill bit. (I think 5/8s)
Then I took a dremel with a cut off wheel and cutted out this whole oval part of the hood.
Then put it back together!
You cant even tell the honey comb has been drilled out.
And if I were you I would remove the heat sheild.

i would never do this for two reasons that can and will happen eventually:
1) heavy rain = you will be getting a ton of water directly on the top of your motor. this can at the very least get water in your plug wells and cause misfires until you can dry everything out (its happened to my car just from the holes that are drilled to MOUNT the hoodscoop which i later RTV'd to seal off, much less a 6x2" hole funneled into it. worst case scenario is cold water dripping onto hot engine = cracked engine.
2) i have seen people who have removed the honey comb before, and their hood scoop has ripped off from highway speeds. the honeycomb creates an air dam, so there is very little outward/upward pressure on the hood scoop. with that honeycomb gone (wheather or not there is a hole in the hood for an outlet), there creates upward force. the "bolts" holding the hood scoop on are threaded plastic. they are not very strong.
the mach 1 scoop is not held on by plastic rivets to the hood. thats why its the way it is (functional), and ours is the way it is.
thats my advice.
