Default fuel sprays from filler when toped off???

Anybody have this issue??? When I fill my 2000 GT to the point when the pump shuts off automatically, the filler overflows and sounds like there is some kind of pressure behind it, like a whooshing/hissing sound and sometimes it even sprays very slightly. I'm not topping off after the pump shuts off, just filling it till it stops, then when I take the pump out it does it??? WTF???? It drips down the inside of the bumper cover and when it hits the ground it splatters on my shoes if I don't jump out of the way!!!

i wana say the neck has some kind of "vent" on it.. which seems like it is clogged or messed up or something

I'm in Jersey so I don't pump my own gas so I can't tell you if it makes a hissing sound. But I smell gas almsot every time I fill up and drive down the road. If they try to top it off even ever so slightly, it over flows and sprays gas everywhere. FWIW my car is also a 2000 GT. Might just be something with these cars, although yours sounds like it's worse then mine.

Yeah it's actually Illegal, I know people who have gotten tickets for it (yeah the cops were reallll dicks). But you better know, I pump my own gas on my 69, I have literally left gas stations that wouldn't let me do it. Most don't have a problem with it, but some just wont let you in fear of being fined.

What is the logic behind not letting individuals pump their own gas?

+1

that sounds expensive too. now the stations have to pay an extra wage for the worthless gas pumper, which im sure is evident in the price of the gas.

Sounds like your evap system is clogged. If the tank can't vent (push the air out) during filling then the gas has nowhere to go and will back up into the filler neck.

Seriously, you guys can't pump your own gas ? Thats retarded.

I have an issue with my car where I stick the nozzle it and the pump keeps shutting off thinking the tanks full when it isn't. So I have to pull it out and hold it by hand. PITA.
