Default Oil drain lines vs self contained

Ya I know another supercharger ? but I've searched and can't find any answers. Do people like oil lines that tap into the oil pan or self contained units?

I would much rather have a supercharger that is oil fed rather then one that is self contained. Most people don't want to tap the pan but only because they probably never done it. It take all of 5 min to tap the pan and I have never had one leak.

With an oil feed line, does the engine need a lot more oil added to it?

Not according to the Vortech install manual, seeing as I still only added 5 quarts of oil on my recently finished install.

I would think that the one that taps the pan and uses the engine oil woukld be better than the self contained one IMO. I just thing the head unit will run a lil bit cooler than the self contained unit bc the self contained unit just uses the oil thats right there in the head unit the whole time and that has to get a bit hot after a bit of use. but the other uses oil that is in the pan thats been cycling through the engine or whatever so it May be a bit cooler than the self contained. And the oil always gets changed when you change the oil on your car goes through the filter and all vs self contained.

once you get over the initial "tap" there are no more headaches. I like knowing that if my car has oil... my blower has oil.

Self contained is just ANOTHER thing to check every so often... lol

tapping is NOTHING....everyone thinks its a big deal, as well as me before i did it, but its cake.

It doesnt take more oil, cuz all it does is spray up into the unit and then drain so theres really no more storage factored in

When I helped my roommate install his hellion TT kit on his cobra he was scared to tap the pan. I told him I would do it if he ran in the house and got me a beer. he decided to take a **** then get my beer and by the time he got back I was already done.

Moral of the story I'd much rather take a couple of min to tap the pan then have to buy expensive oil to change out the self contained one all the time.

I don't think people fear tapping the pan because of leaks ect. It's the matter of chips getting into the pan from making the hole. And making threads.
