Next Step

I have an 04 gt. i have an o/r xpipe and flows, and a bbk cai. im ordering a ct tuner with custom tunes. My question is what should be my next step with out throwing in too much money?

define too much money...

honestly the only other bolton you could do worth anything is either longtubes or get gears, and both of those after labor are pretty expensive (on average 700+ to get your gears done depending on how much you have to spend on labor, and headers can be well over a thousand again depending on labor and wheather u buy new or used headers).

cheap power is nitrous.

other than that, cosmetic, suspension mods, or saving for a blower is about the only thing worth while.

^gotta agree with this guy.

As a next step, gears would probably be your best bet. 3.73s if youre thinking about going FI in the future anytime, 4.10s if not. Gears will definitely give you an improvement.

ironboyofwar 09-07-2010 07:07 PM

About gears, I wa thinking 4.10. But I've heard bad things about the speed recalibration thing. Opinions on that?

Also if I do headers someday I can put them on myself.

One big question of mine is about cams. My dream is to have it have a rough idle cam like the classic muscle cars. And I have seen videos of my model mustangs cammed and it sounds sick. But idk if the gains are worth the money. I guess my question is do I need to buy new heads to get the rough idle cams?

you dont have to buy heads if you stick wth a stage 2.5 or below. the best thing you can do is plan out which way you want to go with the car. s/c, turbo, nitrous, etc? once you plan out your build, start saving ang adding parts. but like these guys said, gears are a great start. having a custom ground cams for your build is the best route to go cam wise. ive seen 327 rwhp on a 00 gt with full bolt ons, port pi (your stock heads ported) heads and hitech stage 2 cams.

MU71L4710N 09-07-2010 08:35 PM

even some stage 2's are too much for stock head height/pistons if im not mistaken. a 2.5 or higher would require getting your pistons notched.

headers are a HUGE pita on these cars op. you have to either undo the motor and lift it up or drop out the k member. dropping the k member is easier/faster in the long run, thats why most people pay to have them done. just letting you know what's involved its not like putting a header on a honda.

cams IMO are kinda what your wanting out of the car. can give you a real sick sound and does add quite a few ponies, but in the end its a lot of money. stage 2 cams with all the extras (like the valvesprings and whatever else you end up needing to buy) will cost you around a grand in parts give or take. if you can do the labor thats cool but if not labor is expensive and you can spend over 2 grand for cams by the time its all done (plus a tune afterward). for that amount of money you could have gone with a supercharger and had 400rwhp. however, if your desire is to have that cammed idle sound then yeah it may be worth it to you to spend the money like that. personally i'd rather have 100 more rwhp for the same amount of money.

Where can u get a s/c for 2000?

school boy 09-07-2010 09:11 PM

https://mustangforums.com/forum/pipe...-its-done.html
its more like 2000 to 2500 after you add injectors, fuel pump and tune

ironboyofwar 09-08-2010 10:21 AM

For that s/c, what supporting mods would I need?

Are my stock heads and all that ok to run with?
