It is a fair bit of labor. If you have the time/tools/patiences to give it a shot yourself, it would save you quite a bit of money.
I've never done it in the car with a stock K member (I usually just drop the engine engine in with the headers/trans already installed... oh and tubular K members kick ***!)but it's not really as bad as people make it out to be. Once the stock crap is out at least... IMO that's the worst part, fighting and struggling with rusted bolts.

to do longtubes. you either need to unbolt the motor and lift it up, or drop the k member off the car. either way, its a good days job with a couple hands. so 500$ is actually very reasonable depending where you live. i believe people have posted that they have had to pay 1000$ for the labor....just depends where you live.

if you were in michigan i'd do it for you for 200. really dropping the kmember isn't very hard. and once you get that out it's not too hard to get the old ones out or the new ones in. but it does require proper tools. and i have small hands so it makes it a little easier to get into the tight spots.
