Default 1997 police interceptor motor?

Alright long story short, I found an old 97 police interceptor motor and trans with 163k on it for $300. Its in pretty rough shape with some stuff missing like the alternator. It has the plastic crossover intake manifold but it looks like its PI. At any rate is it really worth the hassle of parting it out? What parts would be would people even want? The guy said that he would bring it over for me too, he is only right up there road. Anny input would be awesome. thanks.

These's NOTHING special about an "Interceptor motor". It wasn't the motor it was a package for vehicles. They have larger radiators, larger alternator, oil cooler, different sring rates and other differences. But the motor is the same.

Do u think high mileage matters when ur talking about parting a motor like that? isn't 97 the first year the PI was out?

The PI was introduced in 1999 in the Mustang, and 2001 in the Crown Vic (the 4.6 modular first appeared in Mustangs in 1996).

The engine/tranny you are contemplating can likely be parted out and net more than $300, but don't expect anyone to beat down your door looking for the parts as it's just a plain ol' non-PI 4.6 2V--the junkyards are full of them...

see thats what i'm worried about... i don't want to be stuck with a high mileage trans and motor no one wants. The intake manifold was pi though... which is confusing me. i'm wounding if its not a 97.

That isn't very high mileage, really. I think it's totally worth it.

163k on a Police Interceptor engine can be a lot--if it spent a lot of that time idling and in stop-and-go traffic it might be badly gummed up.

You also need to consider that the reason the fellow is selling it for $300 delivered, is because that's more than it's worth to him...

Well the fluids looked clean i just wish i new for sure if it was PI or not. I know that some people did just swap the manifold and not the heads. I would say that people would want the manifold but its not an aluminum crossover. I'm still willing to bet i can get more then $300 for the trans somewhere too.
