Default What mods to get a decent power gain

All i have right now is and offroad h-pipe with 44 flows, CAI, and a short shifter.

Going to be getting 4.10s within a few weeks. What are some other bolt-ons i should get that will give me a decent gain?

I know pi swap is the best, and i will probably do that sometime down the road.

Oh yeah its a 98 gt.

Longtube headers..underdrive pullies, tb and plenum help throttle response and make a cool whistle noise.. i think Nick at MHS sells used Comp cams for like $300 so id really look into that and a PI intake mani along with getting your NPI heads worked over would be pretty sweet, or a $1500 vortech build

Buy a tuning system. The OEM tune, is configured so that the engine will run "OK" on any brand of 87 octane swill that might get dumped in there--I.e. it is very conservative.

Even with 87 octane the timing can be bumped by 2.0° globally (Global Spark Adder), and 1.0° to 2.0° across the load and RPM matrix in the Spark Borderline table.

They also run rich in open loop mode (12.0:1, and even dropping into the 10s) to make doubly sure no one can possibly damage the engine--though I do not recommend playing with this unless you get a wideband O2 system.

A good tune, optimised for 93 octane if you can get it, will add a real¹ 15 to 20rwHP peak, and similar percentage gains across the power band. I have never tuned a dead stock, or modest bolt-on, GT where the owner did not come back with a grin on his face after the first test drive...

¹ - "Real" as opposed to magazine and vendor catalog adds "up to" HP...

I plan on getting an SCT tuner when i get the gears, even though it wont calibrate the speedometer. I will get the new speedo gear for that.

Get the PI swap and tune and then start saving for a blower.

The 23 tooth speedo gear doesn't last long fyi and wont get you the correct speed with 4.10's (the 23 is for 3.55 or 3.73's i believe)... i retro fitted a 6 tooth drive gear and a 20 tooth speedo gear (black) so i could the correct calibration on mine and it works within 1% tolerance of a gps at 70 mph. They only make a 6 tooth drive gear for a t5 so I bored the splines on the inside of the drive gear and made it a tight fit on the t45 output shaft and it works 100%. Takes a bit of time making sure the gear is still centered but its worth having the correct mileage IMO. I hated being ~17% mph off... with a 23 tooth speedo gear and the stock 8 tooth drive gear.

As for your post, yes... a tune will do wonders for you, a fine tune will d even more. any 93 canned tune is still a bit weak. You can add 2 degrees as cliffy said, best bet is to go to an open track day and look at your trap speeds and adjust your timing. Keep adding timing til your speed drops off (et is more 60' times and driving error)

Good luck!

EDIT:
here is the drive gear i was talking about

Tuner, Plenum and throttle body,
And get rid of the flowmasters..... They flow horrible and have no power gain. Get a good cat-back exhaust like SLP, Borla,Or Pypes.
Then some gears and some good tires.

Do a PI swap with a set of stage 1-2 cams. You can find stock PI heads and intake manifold for dirt cheap online and get a decent set of cams to go along with it. You will have a little jump in compression and a much better intake/head combo. You can easily get a PI swap for around $500 plus a set of cams $550. You will have more power than any combination of bolt-ons you can throw at your car.

That swap could net you up to 100rwhp.....
