Knocking in engine
Hey guys, so when i accelerate, anything above 2,000 rmps, there is a faint knocking sound in the engine. The radio has to be off to hear it from how faint it is, and i already know that i need new valve cover gaskets. The oil was changed only 1,000 miles ago. The air filter is new. The engine has 186,000 miles on it, its a 1998 gt. Any help is appreciated.

I had the same thing in my 97 Cobra, and it turned out to be a spun rod bearing on cyl # 4. One way to tell is to rev the engine while parked - do you hear the knocking then? If so, try turning off the engine, pull a plug wire from the coil pack for each cylinder (1 at a time) then start it and listen. Rev the engine. If the noise does not go away on the cylinder/plug wire you unplug, turn the car off and plug it back in. Repeat for the next cylinder/plug wire. Continue doing this until you hit the cylinder (if it is a rod bearing issue) that the noise goes away on. That should tell you which cylinder is having an issue, because without spark there is no load/firing on the piston and it likely will not knock while not firing.
