Need info on engine swap
I have a 00 GT that my husband put a new beefed up Ford Racing motor in, lowered gears, suspension etc. Of course, I total it (not my fault). We're trying to find another car maybe a conv. this time. I'm trying to figure out what year range will work (1999-2004)?? and if the engine, tranny, etc. will be a simple to moderate transfer. Is it possible to get a V6 body and then later switch it over? What would that require? I'm trying to avoid making it a total ball buster for him. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

99-04 will be easiest. 94-04 wouldn't be too much of a stretch.
Depending on what all is lost in the accident, a V6 body would work. You'll need a lot of odds and ends stuff if you use a V6, but you'll have it in the original car.

Hey Matt, Thanks for answering. I'm seeing alot of the 00-04 V6's going for alot less than the V8's, I guess that's a no brainer though.. My medical bills were steep so i'm trying to get a car back for as little $$$ as possible. He had just put about $20 grand in my car before I wrecked. I just assumed the bodies would be the same and we could just transfer the engine. My husband's a great mechanic but he's old school so when all the computerized crap comes into play it gets iffy. Do you know what kinda of computerized stuff will run into? you mentioned odds and ends, my car has frame damage, I spun out (black ice) hit center divide on freeway at 70 with the right rear, trunk now in backseat, blew all windows and my driver seat in a "S" and snapped in 1/2. Were pretty sure no damage to engine or tranny. Thanks again for reply..

Engine, trans, wiring harness, ECU, dash cluster, rear end, front springs and fuel system will be needed (off the top of my head). I know a lot of people who have the 'donor' V8 car and a V6 body will drop the whole K member out with the motor on it and swap the whole thing over to save steps.
