Mustang broke down, clutch? tranny?
so recently ive been having this problem where when i step on the gas in gear the rpms go up about 1k or so until it feels like the clutch starts gripping.. all of the sudden on my way home from work im in 4th gear and i go to hit the gas, the rpms go way up and it seemed as if the car was in neutral.
i try to pop it into third, the shifter moved but it would not engage with the motor, so every gear was pretty much like neutral no loud noises or anything when it went out.
i coasted into a train station and thats where she sits now till tomorrow when i can get my buddy to tow it to his shop.
so what do you guys think ill be in for a clutch a tranny? thanks guys.

Try using the manually adjusting the clutch cable as described here, to make sure the cable is pretty loose--that may buy you enough clamping force to get it home...

To clarify, I did not suggest adjusting the clutch as a fix; just something that might buy him enough to get the car back home--sounds to me like the clutch is toasted and its been telling him that for some time...

The problems ive been having have only been happening for the past few days, ive just been so busy. The car currently has a ford racing clutch in it, when i bought the car the stock clutch came with it so im thinking im just gonna throw that back in for now.
