The Purp Needs a Clutch.....
Hey guys -
So one of the things that I need to address this winter/spring before either supercharge or cam/nitrous install is the clutch. Last summer my TOB went and the clutch had more than enough life to it so I didn't bother replacing it at the time. I had every intention on installing longtubes this winter/spring so I always planned on doing that at the same time. So with that being said....
I'm planning on around 400-430rwhp and 400-430+rwtq this spring with my build. I see a few running with Spec clutches, King Cobra clutches, Centerforce DFX clutches, and so on. For those of you within this power level, what made you decide which clutch you went with? And also, if/when the time comes to replace the clutch again in the future, would you buy again?
So far the 3 I am considering is Centerforce DFX, Spec, and King Cobra. If there are any other clutches that should be considered, please feel free the chime in.
Thanks!

I would go with a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch for your 2003 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L 281 cubic inch Modular V8 with a T3650 manual 5 speed gearbox.
All joking aside, the FRPP clutch you would look at is the 03 cobra clutch, as the King Cobra clutch is for the T45 and is a 10.5" clutch rather than an 11" clutch like we should run. The Centerforce DFX clutch is actually a puck style clutch and is rated for mid 600's hp wise, so you would be looking for just the regular dual friction version. DFX has more pedal pressure and holding capacity than you really need. And just dont get me started on Spec. Its really hit or miss with those things, as you can plainly read about on any mustang website on the interwebz.
From your choices though, I would recommend the DF clutch. I havent had one in my car, but I've driven an 03 cobra and I've driven an 03 GT with a DF clutch in it...the DF wins hands down from the experiences I've had thus far.
Take it for what its worth though.

We seem to have clutch threads sprout up ALL THE TIME....lately threads on here could be started asking the best way to wipe your own *** and a name of a clutch could be thrown in as an answer. I'd really like if we could have a thread that could help people choose which clutch to go with based on their power levels. That way if someone comes in at 230rwhp...BOOM, they can reference this thread or any other solid clutch related thread and see that they shouldn't be looking at mcleoud twin discs when they should be looking at centerforce dual friction clutches instead.
So how about....
350rwhp?
400-600rwhp?
600rwhp+?
And I'm planning on a Centerforce clutch by the way..lol

OEM 03 Cobra clutch & pressure plate
Ralco RZ chromoly lightened flywheel
Timken TOB
Ford clutch fork, flywheel bolts, pilot bearing, pivot ball, exhaust gasket
Felpro teflon rear main seal
And some good old Valvoline Merc 3/Dexron trans fluid...I also got another cobrabob shifter gasket incase the actual shifter base has to come off the trans when it gets pulled out...I already got a cobrabob gasket on it but I don't wanna reuse it too many times cause it's pretty thin and becomes all wrinkley and shrimp dick and doesn't line up again too well
