That's why they have such a large following, and do such a stellar business Right

Putting on a CAI with a k&n filter grenaded my motor & popped all my tires /unneeded sarcasm

CAI's on our cars are more about the nicer appearance than performance gains. The stock air box does the job but I'm curious if that's because the heads don't flow very well. Wouldn't an air tube with smooth edges flow better than the stock ones we got that seem like they have ridges inside?

I'm sorry. I cannot find the thread about different types of air filters, I read it a while ago. I retract my K&N statement.

^^^^ even if you found hte thread it woudl still be garbage if it says K&N is a bad filter.

OP was the american muscle CAI any kind of metal/aluminium piping? Because if so, that is the worst type of intake to buy because of how heat soaked it will get once the car runs for any amount of time.

I'm pretty sure he is talking about the tube that sticks into the fender well, but I wouldn't remove that. Seems kind of important.

Oh, update. I no longer get a howling noise during morning cold starts since the change out. I used to get this weird whine noise matching to the revs of the motor during this NC winter. Guess it was a vacuum leak of some sort.

Not really.... It points into the fender. I took mine off. I noticed a slight better pull in the upper revs and opens the airbox so more surface area of filter is exposed

Ford hit the nail on the head with the stock setup. I datalogged my stock system with the air silencer, and a true cold air intake to see the difference.. It was only a 2* separation above ambient temp while driving(and im not convinced that that 2* difference came from the intakes, I think the temp just rose durring the intake swap). No gains to be had at all really.

Everything about the stock set-up is designed to get the best airflow into your motor. MAF location, the MAF screen and even the ribs are there for a reason.
