First trip to the track on DRs! Questions and predictions?
So I have my first test and tune this Sunday, temp should be between 55-60 degrees with like 20% humidity and the track is supposed to be well prepped with VHT. Only downfall is it's at like 4400FT above sea level What time do you guys predict I can pull off? How much of a difference does my elevation normally make versus a pass at sea level?
Also I will probably run the 305/35/18 555r's at 18 psi unless you guys have better ideas? Should I do a 2nd gear burnout in the water box or just run through the box and do the burnout outside it after wetting the tires? I am not sure what RPM to launch at on these things either. I lose alot of power down low with these cams and stock gears. I have a 2 step in the tune that's set for 3k rpm. Any advice would be great. We only have 91 octane here but I am running meth. My tune was done with 93 octane in the tank but I made sure the tuner knew I would be running 91. I think they sell race gas at the track.

Tire pressure your gonna have to test and try and see what works best for you. 18 is a good starting point though. People have various opinions on the water box. I would roll through it and do a second gear burnout. As far as the rpm launch that is another thing that takes some time to get down. Start at 3 if you spin to much try either slipping the clutch a little more instead of just dumping it. If your still spinning than try a lower rpm. if your bogging that go higher obviously.
Also on a side note i would invest in some sfcs and some lcas...

I run 315/35/17 555R's, and i drop them to 15-17 psi with a first gear burnout lasting maybe 5-8 seconds. I can either launch around 3k with a really quick slip on the clutch, or around 4-4.5k with riding the clutch more. I need more practice with them, but this what i've found so far. I've also found these tires to be somewhat tempermental when it comes to getting consistant launches and traction.

12 flat is quite possible with that power and some traction. However, since you have not practiced with this set-up, I'd be happy initially with anything under 12.4. EDIT: I forgot you were at higher altitude (low 12's possible, but 12.7 or better is good for now).
You can either drive around and back into or drive thru the water box. Use 2nd gear for your burnout. Since the Nittos need to be heated pretty good, the additional surface feet per second in 2nd gear will be helpful (heat them until you can see at least a little smoke, 5 seconds should be plenty).
With stock gears, I would say 3500rpms and a slight clutch slip would be a good starting point. Trying to dead hook at 3000rpms will almost certainly bog the motor.
If you focus all your attention on improving your 60' times, your ETs will absolutely improve quickly.
Remember, trips to the track are ALL ABOUT having fun, so don't put too much pressure on yourself to perform right out of the box and just have some fun!!!
GOOD LUCK!!! Btw, 55 degrees is great for drag racing!
