Nope. The New Edge Gt's have a cast iron block with aluminium cylinder heads. I'm not sure about the S197 v6s but they should also have iron block. (Correct if wrong). The Gt's are really durable cars. Trust me on this one.

Just an idea if you have to go the dealer route. Is there a carmax around you? I have never dealt with them personally. But I hear they are pretty picky on the cars they sell. Low mileage and great condition. They can do a search for the car you are looking for from all over the country, and have it shipped in. Like I said I have never dealt with this company so no good or bad experience. Good luck with your search.

The new edge GTs are great!!! I had an 02 with 128k miles and drifted it, raced it on courses for 35 minutes straight, and it never gave up. Didnt give me ONE problem. My firends all have mustangs (yes we're stang nerds haha) They consist of a 1999 v6 with 134k miles, a 2000 gt with 133k miles, a 1999gt with 120k miles, a 2001 gt with about 98k miles, and a 1998 v6 with 168k miles. The 99 gt threw a rod because it was cold revved everytime it was started and he sat on the revlimiter for 10 seconds at a time.. my friends 00' had to have the computer replaced because it got too hot inside and burnt it a little i think.. but he got it fixed and it runs great now.. has 133k miles. They are great cars and they are as reliable as it gets. But make sure you dont cold rev, dont sit on the rev limiter, and change your oil every 3k miles and keep your fluids topped off. If you do that you can beat on those cars as much as you want and they will last you forever... I have had a new edge and i just sold it to get another one.. too many miles haha got tired of looking at the odometer.

I have bought 5 pony cars from Carmax over the years and they've all been in great shape for reasonable dealer prices. I have obviously been very pleased with Carmax...
