2000 4.6 need 150HP more $1500 max

You seriously don't understand what it takes to get an extra 150hp out of the 4.6. Lol you say 150 like it was 15. As stated by everyone above, its gotta be nitrous unless you can save a lil more for a S/C.

Well, the 03 cobra 4.6, $1500 can get you pretty far. That, and maybe the new 5.0. Other than that, $1500 wont do anything for a 2v, hell even a 3v engine. 1500 will probably get you 15-20 rwhp(exhaust, throttle body and plenum, and a sct tune)... Maybe.

Now I have a challenge - I looked at the SVT intake opening times and sizes of intakes and came to the conclusion with a steeper cam it is possible to get close to that numbers. That is 60HP right there. Stronger springs and better guides...
Throttle-body and mass air can be used from another engine. To increase the air may 19% with a change of the injectors and pump. Lapping the valve tunnels and polishing the intakes...and so on.
It just looks like I have to spent more time on the research of the 4.6 than I actually want to. 100 HP per liter displacement is not that much. Frankly a 4.6 with 260 HP stock is not that impressive.
Anyway, thanks again for the answers. I keep you guys posted where and how the $1500 went.

That's the reason I ask.

I love this car to death, however, it's engine is def is weakest point. It takes way too much to get any power out of these engines. It costs about 1500 just to match the power level of a 3v, probably even more.
It sucks cause IMO this is one of the only mustangs where ford got the exterior looks pretty much perfect. Too bad the rest of the car isnt that great. The new edges would've been successful (well actually they were VERY successful, sold a lot more than the 05+) if they gave us the 01 cobra 4v motor, an updated chassis and interior. It was like they didnt put much thought into these cars. Shame.

think about your logic.
the GT was never ment to be a power house. its an affordable, entry level v8 sports car. if they put the cobra motor and an updated chassis in a GT...then you just made the GT a cobra and raised the price tag on it by $5000+ and it wouldnt have been as successful selling as it was. and what can they do to the cobra to separate it from the GT if they both have the same motor and suspension? the GT was cheaper than the cobra and the LS1 counterparts for a reason and that is why there are so many on the road today. if you wanted a better power plant to start with...you had to spend the extra coin.
buying the bottom shelf v8 on the market and expecting top shelf performance is not fords fault...stop blaming them.

The SVT - 0.479" and 0.479" lift with 209 degree on the exhaust and intake side.
