So I have a new project... Should ruffle some feathers.
So a few people have asked me what exactly I mean in my sig.
Some of you may remember that I used my stock 2002 GT shortblock and swapped ported 4v heads, stage 3 cams, and a ported Mach 1 intake onto it. Well, I got that running, and wasn't very happy with it. Basically wasted a bunch of money. So I pulled out the motor and trans and right now it's up on jack stands with no drivetrain. Well, here's my new project... http://img834.imageshack.us/i/031011212229.jpg/http://img834.imageshack.us/i/031011212229.jpg/Damn pics won't post. Oh well, links never hurt anyone. http://img715.imageshack.us/i/031511194123.jpg/http://img715.imageshack.us/i/031511194123.jpg/http://img834.imageshack.us/i/031011212229.jpg/ http://img715.imageshack.us/i/031511194123.jpg/ http://img852.imageshack.us/i/031511194158.jpg/ http://img233.imageshack.us/i/031511194208.jpg/ http://img715.imageshack.us/i/031511194123.jpg/ http://img852.imageshack.us/i/031511194158.jpg/ http://img233.imageshack.us/i/031511194208.jpg/ I'm sure this will make me some enemies, but to be honest I think that's half the reason I'm doing it. But in reality, I know these engines so much better than the modular motors, and they're overall better engines. I put that whole motor together for about $2500. I have a built 4l65e on the way, built for 650hp, RVMB, still undecided about the converter. My tubular front suspension is sitting on the other side of the car. I just need to put it in (which should be easy with no drivetrain). After that all I need is headers, and some bull**** parts (alternator, starter, new water pump, serpentine belt). As far as wiring goes I'm going to re-install the 4.6 harness and disassemble it and cut out what I don't need (pretty much everything). Then I'm going to take the new motor's harness and wire it to be standalone with just an ignition feed. And I'm going to use a cluster from a Camaro/Firebird (which oddly enough fits quite well in the Mustang IP) so that I don't have to **** with all the gauges too much. So what does everyone think? Honestly, I don't really care what anyone thinks, I know this is "blasphemy" to you Ford guys, but I'm not brand loyal. As long as it's American and not Chrysler (lol) I'm happy. Plus, I'm a GM tech and know their systems so much better, and you really can't beat their power. I know Ford has the 5.0 to compete with the LS series now, but come on. It took 14 years to catch up. And I'm not spending $6,000+ on a 5.0 crate motor. Thanks for looking. I'd like some honest opinions, just to see what you guys think. I'm curious how many of you are accepting lol. |
I knew it was gonna be a chevy motor before i even read a word. lol Personally, I think its whatever you wanna do. I think the LS motors are BA and work really well as N/A motors, just hate the way the F-body looks and hate how much of pompous asses the corvette owner base is. Whats that motor spec out at? Block, heads, cam, compression, ect?

Good luck man. That's a heck of an undertaking!!

Just seems like a lot of work to me,.but hey I want to see that **** when its done. GL7

It should put down 420-450rwhp as it is right now. And I agree about the F bodies. I think I could possibly see myself in a black WS6 with C6 Z06 wheels, but I still like the look of my Mustang 1000x more. And the Vette owners are a mixed bag. I've met a few cool ones with souped up Z06's that know what they have and are great guys, and a few douchebags with stock base models that think they're the **** cause they have a Vette. But yeah, the LSX's are awesome motors. And it shouldn't be all that bad getting it to work. AJE makes a K member with mounts for this swap, and the motor itself is actually physically smaller than the 4.6 SOHC and DOHC, so it'll fit right in there. Plus, I like challenges and being different. Anyone can throw a centri blower on a 2v and make 400rwhp. I'll have a lot more pride in what I built rather than buying a "bolt-on" kit. I'll post up some more as progress continues. I'm shooting for having it running and driving by May/June. |
Jez, those are pretty good numbers. No feathers ruffled here. Looking forward to watching your progress.

Why?
Why? |
Man 420 rwhp on all motor would be nice. I would love to have that. Post a thread when it is all said and done with numbers and final pics

Go for it man!
If you can get it all together, it should be a strong configuration. Hot rodding is all about taking what you have and making it work for you. That is how it was/is done. More power to you for trying it. GOOD LUCK!!! |
