Default Why did ford seem to dismiss the gas light...

It dawned on me the other day after owning my 1996 gt for quite some time, that there is no gas light to warn if your gas is low, i guess its not really necessary because you can just look and see, but why isn't there one?, I ran out of gas once cause i thought i had longer to go then I actually had haha

i realized this too, though most of the time i try to keep 1/4 + in there, to avoid all the dirty stuff at the bottom of your tank getting sucked into the motor, though i cleaned out my tank last summer when i replaced the fuel pump.

I think a gas light in a Mustang 4.6 Liter is useless.
these cars are not eco friendly cars. What if the gas light pops on in a GT you would get a 1/2 a mile to get to gas station.? LOL

I think most people"like myself" run higher output pumps and wont let the tank get down lower than a 1/4 in fear of burning out FP or sucking up crap in tank.

So a gas light is useless IMO

4 cyc or six I can see maybe.

Looking at the owner's manuals it seems to have been added in the 1998 MY.

Mine was on when I bought the car in December of '06; IIRC it has not come on since then--I ran out of gas once in a 1959 VW bug, in 1966 or so on US1 in Maine. It sucked and I made a mental note...
