how much of a difference between tr3650 and t56?

and does an irs make a huge difference in terms of performance?
the mach is like a N/A cobra almost, cept that IIRC it had a 10:1 CR, and the rods werent forged. i think the cams were different too?

i have very little experience with an IRS, but i'd much rather prefer a 3 link (torque arm/watts link) solid axle... i'd say its more personal preference.

the 3650 is a 5 speed, t56 is a 6 speed. the t56 has much better gearing, and can handle more power before popping.

all in all, i say cobra. you'll be much happier in the end. far better exterior styling, even though the shaker hood is sick, the whine of that blower is just pure sex.

i would say get a mach one. for the price difference you can easily forge and stroke a motor or get a short block and swap it out.

Mach 1

Terminator

Now to answer your question. Yes you can buy a Mach 1 and supercharge it to be about as fast (acceleration wise) as a Terminator. However the most you can run is approx 9 PSI intercooled twin screw, or 10-12 psi intercooled centrifugal S/C any more and the internals will go bye bye and keep in mind that's the max assuming good tuning. The Mach 1 as stated does not have forged internals like the Terminator. The T-3650 while being a good transmission isn't as good as the T-56 and can't handle as much power either and the transmissions upper limits is about 8-10 PSI and even that could blow the thing if you don't drive it properly, however with the right clutch it should be fine for occasional boost. The Mach 1 also does not have the IRS and as my 99 Cobra lacks the IRS as it was removed by the past owner I can't comment on the improved performance. However statistically speaking the IRS is a better rear end than a solid rear axel for track style racing. It also offers a boost in control for street driving.

So in short you could spend the extra cash to make your Mach 1 a little quicker than a Terminator however the money needed to get there would put you at the price or above that of a Terminator and with the Terminator you have more options for performance.

Keep in mind that a Mach 1 is nothing more than a 96-98 Mustang Cobra with a ram air style induction and 99/01 style upper intake as they use pretty much the same 4 valve motors.

Personally I like the interior of the Cobra and the exterior of the Mach 1, however the Mach 1 would look 10X better with either a 99/01 or 03/04 Cobra bumper, the GT style bumper does kill it a bit for me. Here's an example of one:

I don't like the mach 1 with the cobra bumper. It's almost like an 05-09 mustang with a GT500 front end.

Mach 1 is better in every way over a 98 cobra

It has C heads instead of the crappy no torque B heads
Intake is a ton better
higher compression
More agressive gearing from the factory
doesnt have those IMRC's

Only thing the 98 cobra has over a Mach is the more agressive intake cams. Also the shaker doesnt even work, jus scoops air intake the engine bay

if you can swing it id go for the cobra. theres more aftermarket parts for the cobras than the mach 1's. the problems are with buyin any used sports car you never really know what your getting how bad has it been beaten, has it been wrecked, has it been moded and not tuned properly? get someone to go with you while your shoppin who knows alot of what you need to look out for.

its just that i like different things about both of them, but it just seems that i'll be able to get a better mach 1 for the money i've got and then down the road s/c it
