Default My Mach is way to loud!

Hello everyone, I'm looking for a little advice on my exhaust. See I just picked up a 2004 Competition Orange Mach 1 Mustang, however the previous owner put on a BBK x-pipe w/o Cats, And I believe flowmaster Super 44s or super 40s. oh and stock exhaust manifolds, and what looks to be 3" pipes.. i think.

I love the sound of the flowmasters however the volume is way to high at 2000 rpm it sound level is close to a jet engine in decibels. 3000 sounds like i'm trying to race everyone in the world as you can hear me coming down the highway from a mile away lol. I also have a loud rattle if i get on the throttle pretty hard.

What I'm trying to accomplish is to be able to have a nice conversation in the cabin while going down the highway at 70 but keeping the flowmaster sound. As well as keeping the exhaust flowing free and unrestricted. I like my horsepower. Any recommendations?

Oh and sorry for any horrible grammar and posting questions on my first postings here, I swear i'll contribute more in the future as I hopefully get past the newbie stage.

The best thing would be to change out that x pipe with one that has cats, that should quiet it down a lot.

How about a resonator would that make much of a difference? Some of the muffler Shops here in San Antonio recommend a dynomax resonator. But it says it brings down the sound only about 6 decibels.

Just get a catted mid pipe and call it a day, end up cheaper than having a shop hack up and weld your exhaust probably.

Part of the problem may be due to the fact that x pipes and chambered mufflers tend to resonate worse at certain rpm's. Certainly adding the cats will help a lot as well.

+1 to all the above. And some chambered mufflers.

I had the same setup on my gt and between 2000-2800rpm it was rattly loud but I got a set of hi flow cats and had them welded onto my existing o/r x instead of going out and getting a totally different mid pipe. and the cats cleaned the sound up Alot. Get a set of hi flow cats and have the welded onto what you already have esp if you already love the sounds of the flows.

My '03 GT came to me with very nearly the same setup, an o/r H-pipe and Flowmaster 40's--same issues too the sound was nice, but insanely loud with a drone in the cabin at 2200 rpm that could damage your hearing.

I first added a catted X-pipe which got the noise level under control, eventually I canned the Flow's for some Magnaflows and got the drone under control as well...

I lost a lil bit more of that drone by getting rid of the 40series for a pair of 10series flows.

My uncle said he used to get headaches with his Flows driving to work but his Magnaflows sound great now.
