1. Find someone who knows what they are doing.
2. Make friends.
3. Piece together vortec kit for under $2,000
4. Have him install kit for a few cases of beer
5.????
6. Race new cars
7.Hit a pole doing 140
8. Flee the scene because you're not sure if you just killed a lawn gnome or a real midget
9.????
10.PROFIT!

ok maybe you should stop after step 6

I am looking for all the ways I can increase horse power. I bought a cold air intake and a jet performance chip. If anyone has any good ideas let me know I am willing to spend around 1200 for all the parts. Hopefully I can get it past 300 because 260 hp is weak for a mustang in my opinion.
Haven't read the entire thread so if it has been mentioned, sorry,

Port and polished heads with bigger valves, more agressive cams, larger TB, highflow intake manifold, LT headers, dyno tune. Easy 300 rwhp NA. 1200 might be a stretch.

Easiest/cheapest method. Nitrous.

Thanks derf, can you break those down by price? Like what are the most important ones to look at first and what will get me the most for my money. Might be able to spend more down the stretch.

P&P heads - $1500
cams - $600
TB w/elbow BBK 78mm - $300
headers - $350+
midpipe - $150+
new manifold - ported PI $250, Edelbrock $500, TFS $800
dyno tune $500+

and i doubt youll be at 300rwhp still...

on the bright side of things you can save $50 by using the TFS intake cause you wont need a TB elbow...

Hey! Just got my first mustang a week ago... came from the other side (lexus is300), so dont hate, but I have always wanted a mustang and finally got my hands on a 04 with 19k miles on IT!

so i was looking into pretty much the same thing OP was trying to do. i have read a good amount of post and notice so overlap ---

1)gears (3.55, 3.73, 4.10)

2) cams {stage 1, Duration @ .050 - 226 (intake) / 230 (exhaust)
Advertised Duration - 262 (intake) / 266 (exhaust)
Valve Lift @ 1.825:1 ratio - .550 (in/ex),stage 2, Duration @ .050 - 234 (intake) / 238 (exhaust)
Advertised Duration - 270 (intake) / 274 (exhaust)
Valve Lift @ 1.825:1 ratio - .550 (in/ex)}

3) nitrous

4) Programming
5) Exhaust
6)long tubes
7) if done~ sub frame connectors

8)sc-if you want to spend the money

The Exhaust is done... thinking about other ideas...

gears - how do i know the size and acc. im looking for?

cams - how much lift do i want/ need?

nitirous - b/c its a daily driver, not planning on using it all the time (why no SC) thinking dry (50-150 shots) also dont know what that exactly means? what can i expected out of 100 shot press? can i tune it to have different levels, like a 50 shot or 100 shot?

programming - just needed if doing this, understand.

so if someone could write a book and answer my questionsssSSS, that be AWESOME! ill give u thumbs UP! and i think OP would be happy too

go with some SLP or Kooks long tube headers and matching mid-pipe. i am currently at 242 rwhp with SLP LTs, O/R X and glasspacks welded into the stock cat-back. i also have an intake but it didn't add any power...maybe 1 fwhp....maybe.

Cams, compression and piston notches are the only way to making *really* good NA power with a 2V IMHO.

Fill your tank 2/3rds with octane booster and 1/3rd economy. Have fun. Of you could just buy rubbing alcohol in bulk. 2-3 bottles per full tank should work. You'll gain about 87hp.

best BANG for your buck if you ask me.

Juice that bitch. That with some gears and a little exhaust work....it will feel like a beast. And btw throw that jet chip in the trash and consider it a cheap lesson learned
