Default What RPM works best for you?

For those of you who live their lives a quarter mile at a time....

I'm headed to the 1320 this Friday for the first time. I'm super uber crazy stoked...but idk what I'm doing. No idea what rpm to launch at. No idea how to time a tree...

Any pointers will help lol.

I have kyb shocks and eibach pro's out back with BBK gripp upper and lower control arms and drag radials.

Help!

Edit: title is supposed to read, "what rpm works best for you?"

From experience your just going to have to play around with what rpms you launch at. Its different for every car and every driver.

I get the best results with the shift light set at 5,700 so I prob shift just a little higher than that by the time I react to the light.

Shift light is the best thing ever so you don't have to look down at the Tach to shift consistently.

Wow I'm retarded... I thought it said shifting RPM...

I launch at 4,000 slipping the clutch just a little, don't just drop it instantly.

What rear end gear does your car have? With my 4.10 any higher than 4K it starts to spin pretty bad on ET Streets. My Nitto NT05R drag radials couldn't handle much more than 3K.

Like Bo said 3,500 would be a good starting point, but depending on gear you might raise or lower that quite a bit.

I've got 4.10's. I think I'll start off around 3k like you guys said. It should hook pretty good. I don't really have that much power...and it hooks with a little spin on the street. I know it's a different story on the launch pad though.

Oh, I've got 555r's.

You really need to heat up the Nittos good in your burnout to get the grip out of them. Wet them in the water box then pull out and burn them pretty hard in 2nd gear(until some smoke begins to appear).

Try 3400-3500rpm on the first pass with just a tiny bit of slip out of the hole. If it hooks and bogs, increase the rpms by 200 and try it again. If it spins hard, drop rpms by 200.

It will be important to perform a good burnout each time or your rpm experiment won't tell you a thing. The Nittos need to be heated to get the grip.

I wouldn't try to get too aggressive the first time to the track. Just get some experience and have some fun. Your times will improve with a little practice!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!

You should note that when it comes to shifting and possibly even launching the guys who have GTs Rev 1k less rpms than you, which shouldn't make a huge difference unless you can launch at 6500 and stick lol, though you might break something lol. Don't shift at 5700 in your cobra that redlines @ 6850 xD.
