I'm a certified stang modder. I was fine with the just doing the basics til I came here, and now I've got the sickness. One idea after another keep rolling through my brain for my next sweet upgrade.

My job title is Robot Specialist. Its completely opposite of auto modding. But the maintenance is similar. I in no way consider myself a mechanic. But I hope to someday go to college to get ASE certified so I can be. I'm only 20, so its still in reach lol.

You do not need to go to college to get your ASE's. Those technical colleges are a joke imho. I went to the Ford ASSET program and it was a complete laugh. I was in there with kids who havent even touched a wrench before while I already had 2 yrs of dealership under my belt

I did work at a GM dealership and they were going to send me for my journeymans. But after 2 months of doing oil changes and expecting to get on the job training, I got fired.

They fired me because I forgot the snap rings after I changed the U joint(first u joint changed ever, didnt see the snap rings on the inside when I took the old u joint out) on the bosses vehicle. I also heard another story that I was always high when I came to work... which was absolute bullish.

So now I work on a oil drilling rig, which has its ups and downs but overall its 100x better than being a mechanic IMO.

Hands on. A lot of it. I went to a vo-tech highschool and did the auto tech program. I got placed at an independent shop at 16 as an oil changer / shop bitch.. Got tired of it fast, went to Ford as a "student apprentice" I got lucky enough to have the team leader take me under his wing...and Im still working with the guy now. No matter which book I read or literature on cars I see... NOTHING prepares you for it other than getting dirty and doing it yourself

Very true, there's nothing like hands-on. Kinda suck at a cross-road now as to what I want to do career-wise
