Default Please Help!!! Exhaust question

Hi, this is my first post. Just wanted to say I think this is a great site and all the information and help you guys give is awesome.

My question(s):

My dad has a 2001 GT Convert. 4.6, all stock.
Were looking to upgrade the exhaust (sound). Not interested in spending 400$+ on full H-pipe upgrades, SLP loudmouths. Just looking for cheapest good overall sounding setup that will not hurt the car and is legal to drive in the state of KY.

I was looking into cherry bomb glasspack sort of stuff, but I'm a noob to all this and not sure what the hell I'm getting myself into. Hoping to maybe buy the parts and have a muffler shop install them.

Budget I say would be 100-200$ max (including install costs), just looking for the cheapest and safest upgrade to get that non-stock badass mustang sound, but at the same time keep it road legal and not damage the performance of the car. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Go to a local exhaust shop and have them replace only the mufflers, Magnaflow or Flowmaster are readily available and reasonable as well.

Buy some flowmaster 40s and have a shop weld them on. Don't know exact price but should be pretty cheap. This will be legal and should give you that classic mustang sound you are looking for.

Also check out YouTube. There are hundreds of exhaust clips to listen to so you can get any idea of what this will sound like.

Good luck and welcome!

Thanks, will do.

Any other suggestions besides Flowmasters and Magnflow? Any brand/model that stands out from the rest.

SSS, slp, borla, mac are all good brands. On your budget though your choices are limited. Most of these brands with require you to but a cat-back which will put you at around $400.

Try americanmuscle.com

OK, so for just a cheap improvement best to stick with just the Flows or Magnas.....

So on my budget, what would you consider to be the best choice in mufflers?

If you are looking for that classic mustang/muscle car sound go with flowmaster.

FrenchTickler- Look on craiglist, ebay, and corral for a set of used mufflers. Borla, Bassani, Magnaflow, Magnapacks, SSS and MAC will all sound nice.

Good luck
