Default Found a Cobra, Need Advice

I found an '04 Comp Orange Cobra not too far from where I live. guy is asking $18,500 at 81K. minor bolt ons, no major mods. I don't know a whole lot about these cobras...i know about the forged parts, the supercharger and i know about their potential. but what about their durability? 81K isn't bad for a normal car, but what about one that was ran? says it's never been raced(which i'm sure isn't entirely true...every add says that)

long story short. is 81K too many miles to start with?

IMO if its the exact car you want, offer a bit less and see what he says if it looks nice. But personally I would wait for something with less miles. For a few grand more you can get a really nice low mile car.

I'm a sucker for that orange too, it's what i've been wanting for years. As offered, it's about $3-4K less than others w/lower miles, so as far as that goes it doesn't seem bad. I'd make a $17,500 offer.

I'd like one w/less miles too, but this car has a good price and is right here, right now. i could own this thing next week, without flying across the country to look at a "possible" purchase. is this thing going to crap on me at 100K though? or can I get some more (regular driving)miles out of it. I don't plan on driving it much, so i think it'd last a while...

If you are worried about the reliability of this car, then why not take it to a mechanic and have it checked over. Especially have a compression test done.

That's a lot of miles for that price. I wouldn't even pay 17k. Offer him 15 and see what he says.

it was on a forum, and he didn't even entertain a $16K offer.

i called a dyno shop in town, guy said he can do the compression check. also recommended putting it on the dyno and checking the air:fuel...don't know if the seller would be into that. i'll keep you posted.

I think Competition Orange would be one of the only other colors I'd want in my next mustang.
